Omars which is short for Omarolluk are fine grained sedimentary rocks made up of sands derived from basaltic rocks. Special Sacred stones that have a naturally occurring hole in them are also available in a wide variety of eroded irregular concretion "fairy" formations. Made by the sculpting powers of wind and water create the opening, shape in a stone over a great amount of time and it is believed to carry the wisdom of the ages, having both healing and magical properties. Used as windows or doorways to see into the spiritual, fairy realms. These stones are considered powerful protection stones that can be worn for personal protection, hung at doorways or windows to protect the home from negative vibrations. To prevent nightmares, place in the sleeping area of the one who wishes to be free of nightmares. When strung with a red string or ribbon and hung over the bed it acts as a shield against bad dreams much like the Native American dream catcher.

These stones were Only formed in the Belcher Islands of southeast Hudson Bay. They were carried southwest into central Canada by glaciers and then down into the Midwest where they are commonly found in glacial gravels here in Nebraska/ Iowa. What a journey they have made!! They are similar to Hag/ Holey stones found elsewhere, the only difference they are not formed locally where they are found. Making these stones very unique from that of the Hag/ Holey Stones found all over the world! They are often confused with the Native American artifacts, which they most likely were picked up and used by our ancestors but they are all naturally occurring stones. I personally call them "Fairy" stones because the first time I placed one by my bedside I had a dream of a Fire Fairy!
